What message does the church send?

I wonder, what message does the church send?

Are we welcoming? Are we open?

I guess there are two errors in the messages we can send:

1. Church is for the sorted people, not the messed up

2. Church is for the messed up people, and they don’t need to change

Both are wrong.

Matt Chandler puts the correct message as:

‘It’s ok not to be ok, but it’s not ok to stay that way’

I notice that Willow creek have a conference with a great title:

Is this the message we are giving?

Titus 2:11-12 says:

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.  It (grace) teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,

Here we see Saving Grace and Transforming Grace. Grace means that anyone can come to the Kingdom, but everyone who does, will change.

I wonder if churches sometimes have higher standards for getting in than staying in.

I pray that Ammanford Evangelical Church would be a church that says ‘it’s ok, not be ok…but it’s not ok to stay there…let us help you change’.
