This week we arrive at 1 Corinthians 2:6-16. This is a passage that has been used and abused in many ways over the years, and so we need to be very careful to ensure that we understand and apply it properly…as God intended.
This passage can create spiritual arrogant people who think they are more ‘mature’ than others, are deeper ‘spiritually’ than others, and cannot be ‘judged’ in any way by others. But, this passage is not designed to make us arrogant but humble.
So, to prepare for Sunday you can read the passage with the following 3 ‘C’s’:
- Confidence: ask the power of the Holy Spirit to illumine your mind
- Context: look at the preceding chapter and ask whether this is a new argument or a continuation of the preceding argument.
- Change: notice how Paul changes from ‘I’ to ‘We’…who are the ‘we’?
Those three’C’s’ will help you understand the passage correctly.
See you Sunday!
