We have it recorded in Jude 14:
‘Enoch, the 7th form Adam, prophesied about these men: “See, the Lord is coming with 1000’s upon 1000’s of his holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all the ungodly of all the ungodly acts they have done in the ungodly way, and of all the harsh words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.’
Even though Enoch lived thousands of years before Jesus was born, and hundreds of years before the more detailed prophecies of Isaiah – he knew about Jesus.
Enoch was a man out of step with his time. Although the world was in rebellion against God and heading towards the judgement of the flood – Enoch was sticking to God. Enoch was telling people the true situation.
Rico Tice tells a story of going for a swim in Australia, and he is told not to. Even though it was glorious in every way. It was shark infested.
We need to be people who tell the truth no matter what.
Are we sticking to the words of the gospel?
Are we telling people the good news about Jesus Christ?
Think about what everyone says today – what everyone thinks…
‘What ever makes you happy – as long as you don’t hurt anyone.’
‘Make your own path.’
‘Truth is what you want it to be.’
‘God just wants me to be happy and doesn’t mind how it happens.’
People don’t believe that there will be a day when we will have to give an answer.
We need to warn people about the coming judgement. That they are wrong in what they believe about God.
Driving down M4 at 105mph, you may think, ‘Great, not caught!’.
Until the letters from the speed camera’s come through and you lose your licence.
Truth is objective, even if we don’t feel it subjectively.
But we need to say, because the Bible says, truths like these;
-There is only one God.
-He has standards and absolute moralities.
-There is only one, true, historical Jesus.
-He is the only way to heaven.
-There is only one Spirit.
-Only He can change lives for eternity and give meaning.
Are you willing to talk the talk?
We need to stand up lovingly, graciously and courageously.
Judgement is coming. Jesus is coming back to judge the world, and there is a Hell. If the Spirit is at all at work in our lives then we will tell people about this.
If John Chapman hadn’t shouted at Rico not to go for a swim…death. It may have stopped Rico’s fun, but it saved his life. And He went on to have much more fun.
So Enoch talked the talk – his message stood out.
We live in bleak times. Society seems on a suicide mission. The world seems to be going crazy.
We need to see God’s kingdom in our lives – we need to be like Enoch.
